The Fiduciary Corporation primarily manages and invests funds entrusted to it by Friends meetings and organizations, which are commingled into a Consolidated Fund. SHORT HISTORY OF THE CORPORATION

The Trustees of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and the Friends Fiduciary Corporation (1920-1975) merged to form the Fiduciary Corporation of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends in 1975. That body changed its name back to Friends Fiduciary Corporation in 2001, better reflecting its Quaker heritage and acknowledging the more common usage of the name.

The Trustees of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends was a corporation formed in 1898 to hold property and execute trusts of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (Hicksite), its subordinate members, and certain related organizations. Its members were appointed by the Yearly Meeting.

The Friends Fiduciary Corporation was chartered in 1920 to receive, hold, and administer real and personal property and to execute trusts of the Orthodox branch of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. The two groups remained separate after the 1955 reunification of the Orthodox and Hicksite branches until the creation of the Fiduciary Corporation.

Friends Fiduciary Corporation primarily manages and invests funds entrusted to it by Friends meetings and organizations, which are commingled into a Consolidated Fund. The Corporation attempts to invest only in companies that adhere to Friends Concerns. In addition to investment, the Corporation also holds title, without management responsibilities, to a number of Quaker properties. The Fiduciary Committee handles millions of dollars of Friends funds, and largely functions through subcommittees.

Organization:The Series are grouped in three parts, according to the corporate entity responsible for thier creation. Series 1-4 contain Minutes and Annual Reports, Committee Records, Correspondence, and Financial Records, respectively, of the Trustees of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. Series 5-7 contain Minutes and Annual Reports, Correspondence, and Financial Records, respectively, of the Friends Fiduciary Corporation. The last five series contain records of the Fiduciary Corporation of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and the second Friends Fiduciary Corporation, including: Minutes and Annual Reports, Correspondence, Committee Records, Financial Records, and Grants Given Prior to 1990.

Within the respective Committee series are the records of the Committee to Discuss Trustees and Fiduciary Corporation Policies for Investment of Funds, Real Estate Committee, Mortgage Committee, Investment Committee, Committee on Income Administration & Distribution, Anna T. Jeanes Fund, and the Joseph Jeanes Fund.

The Financial Records series contain the bulk of material in this collection, as the holdings and transactions of the corporations are documented in these sections. Bank statements, reports from the CoreStates Trust and Investment, 1838 Investment Advisors, and Morgan Grenfell Capital Management, and voided checks are all found in these series.
