Biographical / Historical

Upper Springfield Monthly Meeting was established in 1781 by Burlington Quarterly Meeting out of the monthly meetings of Burlington, Chesterfield, and Mount Holly. The monthly meeting did not begin holding business sessions until 1783.

Upper Springfield Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) was discontinued by Burlington & Bucks Quarterly Meeting in 1927; its members were transferred to Chesterfield Monthly Meeting.

The Hicksite monthly meeting continued and in 1883 began to circulate between Upper Springfield and Mansfield meetings. From 1909 to 1911 and from 1916 to 1998, the monthly meeting was held at Mansfield. The Hicksite branch was the forerunner of the united Upper Springfield Monthly Meeting. In 1998, Upper Springfield was laid down by Burlington Quarterly Meeting.
