An independent meeting for worship and monthly meeting were organized at State College, Pa. in 1925, under the care of the two Philadelphia Quarterly Meetings and The American Friends' Fellowship Council. In 1949, State College became affiliated with the two Philadelphia Yearly Meetings as a united meeting under Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting (Orthodox), Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting (Hicksite) and Centre Quarterly Meeting (Hicksite) of Baltimore Yearly Meeting. In 1977, the meeting was transferred to Milville-Muncy [Upper Susquehanna] Quarterly Meeting. This meeting is currently active and retains its affiliation to Philadelphia and Baltimore Yearly Meetings.

Monthly meeting records normally include minutes of men’s and women’s meetings for business and registers of births, deaths, marriages, removals (transfers), and disownments. In general, non-members are not mentioned in the minutes, even when they attended meeting for worship on a regular basis.

Business Meeting

Official records of proceedings kept for all Quaker business meetings. Only Quakers could participate. It has responsibility for care of members, authorizes removals and marriages, maintains discipline, considers the queries, manages meeting property, fosters social concerns, and reports regularly to the quarterly meeting.

Minutes of the monthly meeting for business of the united meeting and of its predecessor, the independent meeting, as follows: 1925-1930, 1925-1936, 1930-1936, 1936-1948, 1948-1956, 1956-1962, 1962-1965, 1965-1967, 1967-1971, 1971-1974, 1974-1977, 1977-1981, 1981-1984, 1984-1985, 1986-1987, 1988-1989, 1990-1991, 1992-2003, 2004, 2005, 2006. 1992-2003 includes inventory. Vol.13, 1925-36, includes correspondence from 1924, press clippings, etc., as collected by Hanna J. Maule.

This volume, along with the two volumes 2.2-2.3 below, contains alphabetized, primarily hand-written and typescript membership forms which constituted the membership record of each member until Mae Smith Bixby created a computer data base of such records in 1992/93 to succeed these records. The forms have been hand-updated, with some entries as recent as 1993, and represent the primary source of member information up until that time. This binder contains the forms for all Friends who were recorded by Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1993 as members of State College Friends Meeting. The Meeting retains photocopies of these forms in a binder kept by the Membership Recorder.

This volume contains the alphabetized membership forms for transferred, discontinued, and deceased members of State College Friends Meeting, members of both Yearly Meetings. At the front of the volume may be found about 20 loose forms of inactive members from the early 1990s. Most of the latter, and some of the bound forms, do not include the information regarding date and manner of termination; this information is contained within the minutes of the relevant period. An additional set of photocopies of this volume was not made.
