Biographical / Historical

A meeting for worship was established at Mansfield by Burlington Monthly Meeting by 1730. In 1776, a preparative meeting, affiliated with both Burlington Monthly Meeting and Chesterfield Monthly Meeting was established. In 1783, the preparative meeting and meeting for worship were transferred to Upper Springfield Monthly Meeting. The Orthodox preparative meeting was discontinued in 1927, and its members were trasnferred to Chesterfield Monthly Meeting (Orthdox). Mansfield Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) was discontinued ca. 1903. All sessions of Upper Springfield Monthly Meeting were held at Mansfield from 1909-1911 and from 1916 to the present.
