			<head>SHORT HISTORY OF MEETING </head> 
			<p>Concord Preparative Meeting was established in 1700. At the time of the Hicksite Separation of 1827, the meeting divided into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. The Orthodox preparative meeting was discontinued after 1909. The Hicksite preparative meeting was discontinued in 1914 and its business assumed by Concord Monthly Meeting. </p>

			<p>Monthly meeting records normally include minutes of men’s and women’s meetings for business and registers of births, deaths, marriages, removals (transfers), and disownments. In general, non-members are not mentioned in the minutes, even when they attended meeting for worship on a regular basis.</p>
			<p> <emph render="bold">Note to Researchers: </emph>These records may only be consulted at either Haverford <emph render="bold">(HV)</emph> or Swarthmore <emph render="bold">(SW)</emph>, and are not available through inter-Library loan. 				<bioghist>
					<p>Official records of proceedings kept for all Quaker business meetings. Only Quakers could participate. It has responsibility for care of members, authorizes removals and marriages, maintains discipline, considers the queries, manages meeting property, fosters social concerns, and reports regularly to the quarterly meeting. Beginning at the end of the 19th century, men and women ceased to hold separate business meetings, meeting instead in joint session.</p>
