Thefts in Canaday Library

Since the beginning of October, computing equipment and library materials valued at over $4000 have been stolen from Canaday Library.

Stolen items include a flat screen monitor, a DVD player, and over 100 popular DVDs  from the library’s collection.  DVDs were stolen from the Canaday reserve shelf, from the main floor public shelves, and from desks and shelves in the cataloging and acquisitions departments.  In addition  a laptop computer, valued at $1600, was taken from a locked staff office.  A number of small personal items have also recently been stolen from carrels and public areas in Carpenter Library.

The thief or thieves are currently unknown, but are believed to have struck on at least three different occasions over the past five weeks.  We strongly recommend that you secure your personal belongings at all times and be aware of your surroundings.  We cannot stress urgently enough the need for all of us to work together to protect the enormous investment the library collections represent.  Please help us in this effort by reporting any suspicious activity to Public Safety immediately.

Information Services continues to work with Public Safety to improve safety and security in all our public buildings. Your help is most appreciated.  Anyone wishing to discuss building safety should contact Melissa Kramer, Head of Library Access Services or Mark Colvson, Coordinator of Curriculum and Research Support in Canaday Library.
