I'd like Cornell to have this book:

Database Management Systems by Raghu et al.

ISBN: 0071230572

It is used in CPSC44 this fall, so we definitely should have it as general reserved book.

Thanks.

Hi Phyo - I'll pass your suggestion along to Meg, the Science Librarian!

Canaday should buy The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger for Quita's Corner. My friend and I all love it, and it would be great to see a copy here for everyone to read.

Hi Alli - I'll pass your suggestion along to the librarians at Bryn Mawr and see what they can do! In the meantime, you can request Swarthmore's copy or listen to the audiobook!

Films I think tri-co patrons would appreciate:

1) After This Our Exile (Hong Kong - 2007)

2) Twilight Samurai (Japan - 2003)

3) Hidden Blade (Japan - 2006)

4) Love and Honor (Japan - 2007)

5) Confession of Pain (Hong Kong - 2007)

6) Exiled (Hong Kong - 2007)

7) I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK (Korea - 2007)

8)Tales from Earthsea (Japan - 2007) - a Studio Ghibli Film

9) Dororo (Japan - 2007)

10) The Host (Korea - 2007)

11) Secret (Taiwan - 2007)

12) Hwang Jin Yi (Korea - 2007)

Most of these are probably region 3 if the copies ordered are from the country of origin, but I know that there are some US versions of these films already. They're all pretty fantastic! Thanks!

Hi SFF - Great suggestions thanks! We do have The twilight samurai (http://tripod.brynmawr.edu/record=b2728640) and Hidden blade (http://tripod.brynmawr.edu/record=b3196357). And Bryn Mawr has After This Our Exile (http://tripod.brynmawr.edu/record=b3156651). I'll see what we can do about the rest!

Hi! I'd like to request that trico librarians purchasing DVDs try to buy versions with closed captioning or subtitles whenever possible, so that hearing-impaired students can enjoy the films as well.

I know that many DVDs aren't avilable with closed captioning, but I'd appreciate any efforts to select the ones that do.

Thanks!

For a research project last year, I found Aaron T. Beck's "Cognitive Therapy of Personality Disorders" really helpful, but Bryn Mawr's 1990 edition is unfortunately dated. There was a second edition published last December, ISBN-10: 1593854765
ISBN-13: 978-1593854768. Could we add this book to our collection? In general, the tri-co's selection of DSM-IV, Axis-II (personality disorders) books is lacking. Thank you!

Sarah - I spoke with the two people who handle ordering DVDs for the library, and here's what I found out: Generally, the large US distributors have CC or SDH, and we always try to buy US-distributed titles if we can. Unfortunately, CC isn't consistently available from smaller distributors and many of the foreign films we own don't have it either. Even more unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there's much we can do. Because distribution rights tend to be owned by a particular company, and there aren't many different versions of a DVD available, it's up to them whether CC is included or not.

We do keep an eye out for it, and when it's available, we'll include it in the tripod record. Take a look at Pan's Labyrinth for example. Or, you can search for all the films that we have that have CC (although this probably isn't completely comprehensive given cataloging practices over the years). In tripod, click on the Advanced tab, select note from the drop down menu, put in closed captioned, and limit to Video/DVD.

Jessica - Thanks for the suggestions! I'll forward them along to our bibliographers for psychology and we'll see what we can do to add to our resources in that area!

Jessica - I've just put in a rush order for the 2nd edition of "Cognitive Therapy of Personality Disorders" and will be on the lookout for some more updated books in the subject area. Thanks for the suggestion.

Can we add "Blood Diamond" to our DVD collection?

H - Thanks for the suggestion! I'll see what we can do about getting the DVD!

I was so happy to see a queer books display in the lobby at HC, but I was startled by the paucity of books sitting there, and the rather lackluster presentation! Why isn't the display up front, looking sharp? It's a good effort, and I like the representative selection, tho.

Can the Irish section of the Canaday's DVD collection be improved? There are sooo many great Irish movies that are missing. Like, "Intermission," "The Wind that Shakes the Barely," and "The Magdalene Sisters" - to name a few. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions, Alexis! We'll work on increasing our Irish dvds!
Look for more soon.

Thanks for the comments, Nathalie. People had taken titles from the display, so I was glad to add things and include more varied material. Look for new books on art history, theory and memoirs. Nov. 11-17 there will be a new display in the Fountain Area for Out Week. The displays in the Fountain Area get quite a lot of attention as the books taken from this display suggest.

Can McCabe get the film "Journey from the Fall?" It's an amazing movie that is based on real stories about a family's struggle to reach the US after the Vietnam War. It's currently banned in Vietnam because side of the story that the movie is telling isn't one that the Vietnamese government supports. It's very moving, and we actually had the director, Ham Tran, visit Swarthmore tonight (11/8/07)!

Arthur - Thanks for the suggestion! I'll see what we can do about ordering it!

Could McCabe look into getting the dvds for "Hollywood Shuffle" and "Coming to America"? Not only are they great comedies, but they make some good social commentary as well.

I'd really like Bryn Mawr, or any of the tri-co libraries, to get a copy of Benjamin Kunkel's novel Indecision.

Hey!
I think that the tri-co patrons would appreciate "Narcoleptic Sunday" (a graphic novel by Jeremy Haun).

It would be really current and literary if Swarthmore could subscribe to McSweeney's Quarterly Concern and maybe pick up some back issues.

Also, what happened to the old suggestion book? It's still linked from the students' page on the library website, but it seems dead.

Thanks for the suggestion Rohan! I'll pass it along to our bibliographers. Thanks too for pointing out the bad link on the students' page for the library - I'll fix it now!

I am incredibly impressed that you guys are using this awesome way to get patron feedback. I wish my local library was this tech-savvy. :)

Andrew

Phil, Chuck, DJ - We'll look into getting them - thanks for the suggestions!

Andrew - Thanks!

I'd like to second Rohan's request for McSweeny's Quarterly (so long as the issues are accessible to Bryn Mawr students as well!).

Sarah - I'll see what the bibliographers decided and will post back here asap!
