More computers in the Bryn Mawr libraries?!

ATTENTION STUDENTS! Would you like to see more computers in Canaday, Collier, and Carpenter? If so, where should we put them?

Information Services is thinking about rearranging some of the computing and study spaces on campus, and we'd like your input.

  • Would you like to see more computers in carrels on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Canaday?
  • Are there spaces that should have wireless computing access, but don't? Where?
  • Do you like big tables with many computers, or do you like one computer on a table so you can spread out?

Please post a comment!

One or two more computers on the upper floors of Canaday would a great help, as sometimes all are in use. Actually, sometimes in the evning all the computers on the first floor are being used too, and more wouldn't hurt at all.

In terms of wireless: I'd like to have wireless somewhere across the street from Pem Arch - I'm not an Erdman resident, but that seems like a conveint spot. I wouldn't necessarily advocate for this given the College's budget situation I think the money could probably be better spent elsewhere, but it would be nice.

I agree with Norma regarding additional computers on the upper floors of Canaday. As for arrangement of these computers, one computer per table is my preference. Space for research materials, notebooks, and other supplies is always appreciated. Wireless access in Thomas would be great, particularly in the Quita Woodward Room. Thanks!

Just FYI. There is wireless access in Thomas Great Hall, which reaches other parts of the building and even to Taylor Green [probably want to wait til things warm up a little to test that latter access]

I doubt it reaches to Quita, but I can make sure that gets added to the list of sites scheduled to get wireless access.

I believe the library needs a couple of good scanners with software allowing to convert scanned materials into PDF files.

I agree with Norma and Sarah about the upper floors of Canaday. Wireless on Denbigh and Erdman green would be awesome if possible.

I know Canaday library is supposedly fully wireless but I it does not reach to the 3rd floor of Canaday. I figured that one out during finals week last semester...BAD timing for me. Also more upstairs in Carpenter library, they are almost always occupied usually on that floor and often in the bottom floor lab a s well.

A friend and I have what may seem like a bizarre request: could there be a wireless-free study zone somewhere on campus? Freshman year my roommate only wrote papers in Carpentar because having wireless was too distracting; I didn't repair a broken airporter for over a year for the same reason. Having someplace where I could write papers without the temptation of the internet would be fantastic.
