Make a Virtual Bookshelf of Your Own on Ebrary

Ebrary is an e-book collection of 3,500 items. When you visit Tripod and find a Ebrary book, you can create an account to create and custom your own workspace (a virtual bookshelf). There you can set aside your own copy of titles you selected, highlight, bookmark and keep notes. Ebrary books are ready to read and use at all the public computers, including the library computers. New Physics Journal Collection: IOPScience

IOPScience increases Haverford access to materials and nanotechnology and european physics.

Haverford users now have access to an electronic package called IOPscience, which includes ALL IOP published content back to 1874. Also included are 6 journals published by Turpion, a publisher that covers the Russian physics literature in translation. The fields covered include physics, mathematics, engineering, chemistry and biology.

New! Password-free JAMA!

Beginning January 1 2009, the Tri-College Consortium of libraries which includes Haverford now has domain-recognition access to JAMA Online. Access from remote locations other than tricollege campuses will require the use of VPN from home, just like all the other e-journal access services. You have 10 years of digital archive a click away, starting from 1998.

The ISME Journal: Multidisciplinary Journal of Microbial Ecology is now available! This is an official journal published by The International Society for Microbial Ecology, the principle scientific society for the burgeoning field of Microbial Ecology and its related disciplines.

Welcome to Professor Helen White!

Professor Helen White arrived on campus in early August to set up a new environmental chemistry lab and prepare for chemistry and environmental classes. She will be teaching Gen Chem I and environmental research tutorials in the Fall 2009 semester.

Advanced Genetic Analysis

Professor Philip Meneely has just published a textbook: Advanced Genetic Analysis which provides a state-of-the-art review of the field, using extended case studies to teach the latest experimental tools, including microarrays, RNAi, and bioinformatics.

Professor Suzanne Amador Kane has just published the second edition of her textbook: Introduction to Physics in Modern Medicine which explains modern medical technologies (such as CT scans, ultrasound imaging, MRI) and their underlying basic physical principles. Premed students will appreciate the worked examples, homework problems and questions included in each chapter providing grounding and understanding to real life medical applications such as cancer screening and arthroscopic surgery.
