Ormandy and Television exhibit at University of Pennsylvania

The Otto E. Albrecht Music Library at the University of Pennsylvania recently opened an exhibit titled "Coming to the Small Screen: Ormandy and Television," which displays for the first time correspondence and photographs related to Eugene Ormandy's television appearances and his efforts in the 1950s and 1960s to gain more exposure on the "small screen." If your travels bring you to Philadelphia, Richard Griscom, head of the Music Library, encourages you to stop by. Learn how the Philadelphia Orchestra made television history in 1948.  See rare photos documenting the 1955 Tastykake Christmas Hour. Find out why orchestra manager Roger Hall wrote a CBS executive in 1960 that "the mating of Mr. Ormandy and Captain Kangaroo is somewhat out of character." This, and more, awaits you on the 4th floor of the Van Pelt Library in the heart of the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
