Provides citations to approximately 99 percent of all American dissertations accepted at an accredited institution since 1861, when U.S. academic doctoral degrees were first granted. Masters theses selectively included since 1962. Includes abstracts for doctoral dissertations published since July 1980. Some Canadian dissertations and an increasing number of papers accepted in institutions abroad are also included. Professional (M.D., LL.D.)and honorary degrees not included. Covers 1861-present.
