If you plan to use ENDNOTE WEB, you will need to create your own account. Go to the Endnote Web site and register as a new user. You will need to create a password, and then you will be able to access your stored citations whenever you log in to the site.

There are several specialized encyclopedias & dictionaries in McCabe's Reference section. These sources are always a good place to get an overview of your topics are you are getting started. These are just a few examples :

EconLit
Provider: SilverPlatter
Provides abstracts to economic journals, books, book reviews, dissertations, and working papers. Topics include economic theory and history, monetary theory, labor economics, international, regional and urban economics. Coverage 1969-present.
JSTOR
Provides full-text and page images from many of the top journals in most academic disciplines. Coverage is from the inception of the journal through three to five years ago.
PAIS international
Provider: CSA
Public Affairs Information Service - Provides abstracts of journal articles, books, government documents, statistical compilations, committee reports, intergovernmental, and private organizations reports. Areas covered include political, economic, social and public policy issues. Covers 1915-present.
PolicyFile
Provider: Chadwyck-Healey
Provides online access to abstracts and full-text articles on public policy research and analysis from think tanks, university research programs, research organizations and publishers.Covers a wide range of topics from international trade to health care reform, from telecommunications regulation to terrorism. Coverage varies.
Web of science
Provider: ISI
Provides access to the Social Sciences Citation Index, Science Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Search for scholarly articles in any discipline, or for articles that cite a known author or work. Coverage for Social Sciences Citation Index goes back to 1956.
Worldwide political science abstracts
Provider: CSA
Provides citations and abstracts of journals in political science and related fields including international relations, law, and public administration/policy. Covers 1975-present.
Google scholar
Google provides a pretty good database for searching for scholarly literature. Use this IN ADDITION to library-provided databases listed here, as there is a lot that is NOT included in Google Scholar. But - it also often digs up good stuff that the other databases don't! Use the "Check Tripod" and "Find it @ Swarthmore" links to see if we have access to full text.
Finding Newspaper Articles:
Access world news
Provider: NewsBank
Newspaper collections from NewsBank provide full-text articles from the electronic editions of record for more than 700 newspapers around the globe, including the NY Times (2000-present). Database covers 1977-present.
LexisNexis academic
Provider: LN
Full-text of thousands of newspapers, magazines, news transcripts, reference works, and legal materials. Includes NY Times (1980-current) Note: Citations from Lexis-Nexis can not be automatically imported into Endnote Web! The ENW folks are working on this, but the LN folks don't want to 'play nice'!
Finding Statistics:
International financial statistics
Provider: IMF
IFS contains time series data for most IMF members (over 200 countries).
STAT-USA Internet
Provides the most recent international trade information available from the National Trade Data Bank, the National Economic, Social & Environmental Data Base and the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Provides access to statistical publications that focus on economics and trade.
InterLibrary Loan & TriCollege Borrowing:
While Swarthmore has a really good libraries, obviously there will be times when we don't actually own something you've located in your research. That is when you'll need to borrow from other libraries and to do this you will need InterLibrary Loan (ILL).
Tri-College ILL - BOOKS: If you want a book from Bryn Mawr or Haverford, simply press the REQUEST button at the top of the Tripod screen. Enter your name & barcode, and select WHERE you want to pick up the book. Delivery takes approximately one day library to library.
TriCollege ILL - JOURNALS: If you need a journal article from Bryn Mawr & Haverford that exists in a PRINT journal, place a hold on the specific journal & request it be sent to you the same way you request a TriCo book. If the article exists in an electronic journal held only at Bryn Mawr or Haverford, complete the online article request form. The article will be sent to you via e-mail.
Non-TriCollege ILL - BOOKS: For books NOT available in Tripod, try E-Z Borrow and request books directly from nearby Pennsylvania & NJ libraries. Books usually arrive within a few days. If the book is not available via EZ Borrow, try regular InterLibrary Loan. (Use Worldcat to get complete BOOK information).
Non-TriCollege JOURNAL ARTICLES: For journal article requests, fill out the article request form on the InterLibrary Loan page. For complete journal titles, check the book behind the Circulation Desk, or go to Journal Abbreviation Sources.
* Your Swat ID will get you into Penn's libraries, but you cannot borrow directly from them. You must use ILL to get anything from Penn.
Citation Information:
If you use Endnote Web, you will not need to worry about formatting the citations in your endnotes & bibliography because the software will do it for you! Your professor should give you the specifics on what format style to use for your thesis, and then you can select that style on your endnote output file.
