A peer reviewed, dynamic online encyclopedia, managed by the Stanford University Department of Philosophy. Articles are periodically updated, contain bibliiographies, and include links to articles on related topics. The encyclopedia is still being developed, so some topics may not be adequately covered.

10 volume print encyclopedia of philosophy, dating from the late 1990s. Not as current as Stanford, but may include topics not covered in the online encyclopedia.
The Oxford companion to philosophy
The Oxford Companion to Philosophy provides good overview articles about major philosophers and philosophical concepts. The articles are shorter than those in the Stanford and Routledge Encyclopedias, but this can be a useful supplement when a brief explanation is all that is needed.
