Sometimes you will need to look up words or get some basic information before you are able to fully understand the articles you are reading in scientific journals. There are lots of specialized encyclopedias and dictionaries available in most subjects, both in print and online.

Finding BOOKS:
You should probably be able to find all the books you need for your freshman year in TRIPOD, the library catalog for Bryn Mawr, Haverford and Swarthmore. If you locate an item that you want which is held at Bryn Mawr or Haverford, click on "request item" to have it delivered to McCabe, Cornell, or Underhill, usually within a day or two.
Ebrary
Academic Complete includes more than 30,000 current e-books from leading publishers, including life and physical sciences (2,400 titles). It spans all subjects.
Note: If you plan to PRINT from eBrary titles, you will be restricted to printing only TWENTY pages at a time, and FORTY pages in one session. If you need to print more than forty pages, you will need to close the browser & then open a new window (but copy the URL of the e-Book before you close, so you can paste it into the new browser window).

ProQuest Research Library
Provider: ProQuest
An interdisciplinary database which has much full-text. It indexes both popular magzines AND academic journals and is always a good place to start your research. Covers 1971-present.
JSTOR
Provides full-text and page images from many of the top journals in most academic disciplines. There are many mathematics journals included in this database. JSTOR has its own search engine. Coverage is from the inception of the journal through three to five years ago.
MathSciNet
Provider: AMS
Provides citations to the world's mathematical literature including journal articles, conference proceedings, and books. Topics covered include all aspects of mathematics, statistics, and related areas. Cover 1940-present.
Web of science
Provider: ISI
This multidisciplinary database can be searched by subject, author, and journal title. Articles that CITE a known author or work can also be searched. Cited reference searching helps identify more recent articles on the same topic. Coverage for the Science Citation Index in WofS now goes back to 1900.
