National Environmental Justice Advisory Council
In response to public concerns, EPA created the Office of Environmental Justice in 1992, and implemented a new organizational infrastructure to integrate environmental justice into EPA's policies, programs, and activities.
Pennsylvania's "Growing Greener" Program
The original Growing Greener legislation was signed into law in December, 1999. "Called the Environmental Stewardship and Protection Act, funds were allocated for farmland preservation, state park and local recreation projects, waste and drinking water improvements and watershed restoration programs. Growing Greener II will continue and expand the important programs that tie together economic and community development with environmental initiatives."
The Northeast-Midwest Institute
a Washington-based, private, non-profit, and non-partisan research organization dedicated to economic vitality, environmental quality, and regional equity for Northeast and Midwest states. Formed in the mid-1970's, it conducts research and analysis, develops policy, provides evaluation of key federal programs, disseminates information, highlighting sound economic and environmental technologies and practices. The Institute is unique among policy centers because of its ties to Congress through the Northeast-Midwest Congressional and Senate Coalitions.
