The Electronic Environmental Resources Library (eERL), an ATEEC (Advanced Technology Environmental Education Center) project, is a multi-faceted clearing house of valuable electronic resources.

Earthtrends: the Environmental Information Portal

Earthtrends is a free online database that focuses on issues of sustainable development and the environment, drawing from 40 internationally recognized sources from global organizations. Over 200 countries are profiled for issues ranging from agriculture and food, biodiversity, climate, economics, business and the environment, energy, population, and water resources.

Environmental Literacy Council - Energy

A non-profit organization, ELC "gives teachers the tools to help students develop environmental literacy: a fundamental understanding of the systems of the world, both living and non-living, along with the analytical skills needed to weigh scientific evidence and policy choices." Good basic information along with relevant links to projects, organizations and references to learn more. Useful for framing issues surrounding each type of power source.

Learning About Renewable Energy - NREL

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is the principal research laboratory for the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Provides not only research efforts but also energy analysis in order to accelerate technology transfer from the lab to the market. This site has a good educational section on renewable energy technologies.

Energy Citations Database (ECD) from DOE

The Energy Citations Database (ECD) provides free access to over two million science research citations from 1948 to energy and energy-related report literature, conference papers, journal articles, books, dissertations, and patents, with continued growth through regular updates. Over 140,000 fulltext documents are available from 1994 forward.

GEOBASE

Interdisciplinary database that provides abstracts to journal articles, books, conference proceedings and reports. Fields include: physical and human geography, geology and ecology. Covers 1980-present.

ProQuest Research Library

Provider: ProQuest

Provides citations and full-text from 3,000+ magazine and journal in a wide variety of disciplines, both scholarly and popular in scope. Covers 1971-present.

Science.gov

With access to 47 million pages of government science information made available form 12 government science agencies, this is a useful first-stop. up-to-the-minute searches are conducted against multiple databases without the user having to know which agency contains the desired information. The most relevant sites are pre-selected and many documents are searched in fulltext.

Web of science

Provider: ISI

Provides access to the Social Sciences Citation Index, Science Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Search for scholarly articles in any discipline, or for articles that cite a known author or work. Coverage varies.

Energy Information Administration

EIA is the DOE statistics division collecting statistics for domestic and international energy use down to country-level information along with historical and projected data. Provides data and analyses about the supply, consumption, distribution, and price of energy in the United States. Detailed weekly, monthly, and annual reports cover major sources of energy - petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, and various forms of renewable energy. Reference tools are abundant. Topics A-Z are fully supported by links to legislature, statistics, geographical information, geopolitical vulnerabilities, technologies, equipment and more.

International Energy Agency- IEA

The International Energy Agency (IEA) acts as energy policy advisor to 26 member countries currently focuses on “Three E’s” of balanced energy policy making: energy security, economic development and environmental protection. Current work focuses on climate change policies, market reform, energy technology collaboration and outreach to the rest of the world, especially major consumers and producers of energy like China, India, Russia and the OPEC countries. Important statistics on OECD countries and beyond. Useful fact sheets on technologies of power generation and energy policies can be obtained at this site.
