Endnote Web Installers:
To install the CWYW feature on to your own computer's Word program:
* Go to DOWNLOAD INSTALLERS, a link that is at the bottom of any Endnote Web page. Follow the instructions for either Windows or Macintosh.
* When you are finished installing the plugin, Endnote Web will show up as its own toolbar, or you can access it under the TOOLS menu.
General Databases (listed alphabetically) :
Access World News
• Run search & select the citations you want to keep by clicking in the SAVE THIS ARTICLE box.
• Select the Save Articles folder in the left column and your saved citations will show up.
• Select articles: All , None , or select just the ones you want to export by clicking the box next to the citation. [Note: you MUST select an article to get any of the export features to work!]
• Select Bibliography (export)
• Save RIS document to disk.
• Return to Endnote Web. Under the COLLECT tab, select IMPORT REFERENCES.
• Hit BROWSE and locate your RIS file on the desktop. OPEN.
• Select Refman RIS as the filter.
• Select WHERE you want the records to go. You can: 1. create a new group 2. select an already created group or 3. select UnFiled.
• Click the import button and the records from the txtfile will come into the file you selected.
Google Scholar
• Before running your search, select the SCHOLAR PREFERENCES link from the search screen.
• Scroll down to the bottom of the screen to Bibliography Manager. Select Show links to import citations into … and select ENDNOTE from the drop-down menu.
• Return to the search screen & run your search. There will now be an Import into Endnote link below each citation. When you select it, a text file called enw.txt appears on your desktop. There is no way to MARK citations in Google Scholar, so each citation must be saved as an individual file.
• If it isn’t open already, log in to your Endnote Web account.
• Under COLLECT REFERENCES, select IMPORT.
• Locate the citations.txt file - type in the name or do a BROWSE on your computer.
• Select Endnote Import Filter.
• Select WHERE you want the records to go. You can: 1. create a new group 2. select an already created group or 3. select UnFiled.
• Click the import button and the records from the txtfile will come into the file you selected.
JSTOR
[NOTE: With the latest version of JSTOR, you will need to create your own MyJSTOR account. 4/08]
• Run your search.
• Mark the citations you want to save by selecting the box next to title.
• Select the Save Citation(s) box (If you are not logged in already, you will need to log in to JSTOR at this point).
• Select # Saved Citations link at top of screen.
• Select the citations you want to save, then click the Export article citations box.
• Select option: EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager (download RIS file)
• A file named citations.ris is created. Save to disk.
• If it isn’t open already, log in to your Endnote Web account.
• Under COLLECT tab, select Import References.
• Locate the RIS file – type in the name or do a BROWSE on your computer.
• Select Refman RIS filter.
• Select WHERE you want the records to go.
• Click the import button and the JSTOR citations will come into the file you selected.
Lexis-Nexis Academic
• This database does not support Endnote Web citation importing. You will need to type in citations found in Lexis-Nexis if you want to add them to your ENW library.
ProQuest
• Run your search.• MARK the records you want to send to ENW by clicking in box next to citation (or MARK ALL by clicking in the box at top of citations).
• Select EXPORT.
• Select Download in a format compatible with ProCite, EndNote, Reference Manager and RefWorks.
• Click Save As on the browser's File menu, and save as text file (.txt). The file will be called pdqweb and will be on your desktop.
• If it isn’t open already, log in to your Endnote Web account.
• Under the COLLECT tab, select IMPORT REFERENCES.
• Locate the citations.txt file - type in the name or do a BROWSE on your computer.
• Select Proquest filter.
• Select WHERE you want the records to go. You can: 1. create a new group 2. select an already created group or 3. select UnFiled.
• Click the import button and the records from the txtfile will come into the file you selected.
Tripod
• Run your search.• Mark the citations you want to save by clicking the box next to the number then click on the Save Marked Records button.
• Select View Saved button at top of screen.
• Select Endnote/Procite under Format of List and Send list to Screen. Submit.
• A list of your saved citations shows up on the next screen. Under File, select Save Page As… Select Text File as format (you may need to remove html from file name).
• If it isn’t open already, log in to your Endnote Web account.
• Under the COLLECT tab, select IMPORT REFERENCES.
• Locate the .txt file – type in the name or do a BROWSE on your computer.
• Select the Endnote Import filter.
• Select WHERE you want the records to go. You can: 1. create a new group 2. select an already created group or 3. select UnFiled.
• Click the import button and the records from the txtfile will come into the file you selected.
Web of Science
• Select the records you want to send to ENW. If you want to send ALL of the records, scroll to the bottom of the screen & select All records on page under Output Records. If you have multiple pages of records, you will need to do this on every page - OR – you can specify the RANGE of records and be sure to include 1 to the last record in your search. The records you select will automatically be saved to your MARKED list. When you are finished selecting records, click on the MARKED LIST link at the top of the page.
• Select how much of the citation you want to export: Author, Title, Source, cited references, etc.
• Click on the Save to EndNote Web button. If you are not already logged in to ENW, you will be taken to a log in screen.
• You will then get a PROCESSING RECORDS screen which will record progress of records being exported to Endnote Web. At this point, you can go back to Web of Science to continue searching & sending more records to Endnote Web, or you can go directly to ENW by selecting the My Endnote Web tab at the top of this screen. (You may need to log again to your Endnote Web Account.)
• You will be taken to your ALL MY REFERENCES page. Your latest citations will be listed as UNFILED. You can then put them in a file you create or leave them in this unfiled list.
Wilson Indexes (including Art Full Text Index, Art Retrospective Index, Book Review Digest, Library Lit & Info Science, Education Abstracts)
• Run search.
• Select citations. GET MARKED.
• Select EXPORTING/CITING tab at top of page.
• Select Saving, Citing and Formatting for bibliographic software
• From FORMAT drop down menu select ‘For exporting to Bibliographic Software’. Select SAVE.
• Save the plain text list as TEXT.
• Back in ENW, under Import References browse & select the textfile you saved.
• Select WilsonWeb filter.
• Select WHERE you want the records to go. You can: 1. create a new group 2. select an already created group or 3. select UnFiled.
• Click the import button and the records from the txtfile will come into the file you selected.
WorldCat (to find BOOKS beyond Tripod…)
Note: There is not yet an Endnote filter for wordcat.org, so you will need to use the traditional FirstSearch version of WorldCat with ENW.
• Run your search.• Mark the citations you want to save by clicking the box next to the number.
• Select MARKED RECORDS at top of screen.
• Select EXPORT. EXPORT TO text file (not Endnote – it’s not the correct version!)
• Select EXPORT again & a window will open – SAVE TO DISK. A file called DirectExport.txt Swill open on desktop.
• Go to ENW. Select Import.
• Select your file to import. Select Worldcat (OCLC) filter.
• Select WHERE you want the records to go. You can: 1. create a new group 2. select an already created group or 3. select UnFiled.
• Click the import button and the records from the txtfile will come into the file you selected.
