Encyclopedia of neuroscience

Encyclopedia of social psychology
Published by SAGE in 2007. Includes numerous entries chosen by a diverse team of experts to comprise an exhaustive list of the most important concepts in social psychology. Entries provide brief, clear explanations to the vast number of ideas and concepts that make up the intellectual and scientific content in the area of social psychology.
Hormones, brain, and behavior
Comprehensive work discusses the effect of hormones on the brain and, subsequently, behavior. Covering a broad range of topics with an extensive discussion of the effects of hormones on insects, fish, amphibians, birds, rodents, and humans.
Finding Books:
Psychology books are mostly found in the BF section of the library (usually McCabe). Psychology books with a more MEDICAL slant to them may be found in the QP & RC sections of the library (both McCabe AND Cornell).

Academic Complete includes more than 30,000 current e-books from leading publishers, including life and physical sciences (2,400 titles). It spans all subjects.
Note: If you plan to PRINT from eBrary titles, you will be restricted to printing only TWENTY pages at a time, and FORTY pages in one session. If you need to print more than forty pages, you will need to close the browser & then open a new window (but copy the URL of the e-Book before you close, so you can paste it into the new browser window).

Your Swarthmore ID will get you in to Penn's libraries, but you will not be able to borrow from their collections. Anything you want from Penn will need to be gotten via EZ-Borrow.

Provides full text access to articles from most of the 63 APA journals, back to volume 1. Covers general psychology and specialized, basic, applied, clinical, and theoretical research in psychology.
Web of science
Provider: ISI
This multidisciplinary database can be searched by subject, author, and journal title. Articles that CITE a known author or work can also be searched. Cited reference searching helps identify more recent articles on the same topic. Coverage for the Social Sciences Citation Index in WofS goes back to 1956. Use this database if your thesis topic has a sociological slant.
JSTOR
Provides full-text and page images from many of the top journals in most academic disciplines. Coverage is from the inception of the journal through three to five years ago. There is a collection of Psychology journals in JSTOR.
ERIC

Provides abstracts to journal articles and ERIC Digest records on all aspects of education. Many digest records are in full-text. Covers 1966-present.
GenderWatch

BrainWeb provides information and links to validated sites about brain diseases and disorders. These include outside resources reviewed by scientific advisors, as well as articles in Dana publications (Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives is a nonprofit organizations of more than 270 neuroscientists.)

A searchable collection of journals, books, reference works, and conference materials in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences. Some materials are in full-text.

An electronic archive of papers related to the study of cognition, including such areas as psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, many areas of computer science, philosophy, biology, medicine, and anthropology.

While Swarthmore has a really good libraries, obviously there will be times when we don't actually own something you've located in your research. That is when you'll need to borrow from other libraries and to do this you will need InterLibrary Loan (ILL).
Tri-College ILL - BOOKS: If you want a book from Bryn Mawr or Haverford, simply press the REQUEST button at the top of the Tripod screen. Enter your name & barcode, and select WHERE you want to pick up the book. Delivery takes approximately one day library to library.
TriCollege ILL - JOURNALS: If you need a journal article from Bryn Mawr & Haverford that exists in a PRINT journal, place a hold on the specific journal & request it be sent to you the same way you request a TriCo book. If the article exists in an electronic journal held only at Bryn Mawr or Haverford, complete the online article request form. The article will be sent to you via e-mail. If you need an article from a journal kept in one of the SCIENCE LIBRARIES, complete the online article request form for ALL of those requests, as science journals may not be checked out. If the article exists electronically, it will be sent to you via email. If the article exists only in print, it will be copied and sent via TriCo mail.
Non-TriCollege ILL - BOOKS: For books NOT available in Tripod, try E-Z Borrow and request books directly from nearby Pennsylvania & NJ libraries. Books usually arrive within a few days. If the book is not available via EZ Borrow, try regular InterLibrary Loan. (Use Worldcat to get complete BOOK information).
Non-TriCollege JOURNAL ARTICLES: For journal article requests, fill out the article request form on the InterLibrary Loan page. For complete journal titles, check the book behind the Circulation Desk, or go to Journal Abbreviation Sources.
