Depending on the topics you choose for your presentations, you should find most of the books you need in Tripod. However, if you are ambitious, driven, and obsessive, there are plenty of ways to track down the books we don't already own. Try searching the following catalogs to get a sense of the scope and strengths (or limitations) of Tripod.

Tripod

We have over two million books in our collection (some estimates put it closer to 2.5 million). Some of these are even on Latin love elegies.

WorldCat

Provider: OCLC

WorldCat is an uber-catalog, consisting of the catalogs of hundreds of libraries from around the world. As opposed to Tripod, there are over 40 million items in this database.

Beta WorldCat

WorldCat has a new beta-catalog that allows you to search the catalog and then link directly to your local library. Worth checking out, but it's only been available for a month or so. Expect bugs.

Library of Congress

Although you may have heard differently, we actually CAN get material from the Librayr of Congress on Interlibrary Loan. As long as it isn't a video, a manuscript, or a rare book.

Année philologique

As the most comprehensive index to scholarly work in Classical Studies, this database is an essential source for serious researchers. The work indexes articles, books, and conferneces and is available in print and online. Citations back to 1954.

JSTOR

Provides full-text and page images from many of the top journals in most academic disciplines. Coverage is from the inception of the journal through three to five years ago.

Arts & humanities citation index

Provider: ISI

Multidisciplinary database covering the journal literature of the arts and humanities with selected, relevant items from major science and social science journals. Covers 1975- present.

Periodicals index online (Chadwyck)

Index to journal articles in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, including some published as far back as 1770. Includes periodicals in English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, and other Western languages.

TOCS-IN

Provides the tables of contents from a selection of Classics,Near Eastern Studies, and Religion journals. Subjects covered include: Greek and Latin linguistics and literature, Greek and Roman history, archaeology, mythology,and the Ancient Near East. About ten percent of the entries link to the full text of the articles. Covers published works from 1992-present.

MLA international bibliography

Provider: ProQuest

Provides citations to journal articles, books, working papers, conference proceedings, bibliographies, and other materials. Areas covered include literature, language, linguistics, film, theatre and folklore. Covers 1926-present.

getting the articles you've found:

In Art Index, and indeed most databases, there is a FIND IT icon next to each citation. Click on it to find out if the article is available in full-text online from the campus where you are doing your research, to search Tripod for the journal in print, or to request the item through interlibrary loan. If FIND IT does not appear in your database, use Tripod to search for the journal title in your citation.

If the journal is in print or online at one of the other two schools, you can request that the journal or article be sent to you. If a journal in not in Tripod, you can request the article using ILL. In both cases, follow the directions on the EZ-Borrow/ILL page
