This collection of articles from the NCBI describes a variety of genetic disorders, the underlying mutation(s) and clinical features and gives links to key websites.

A four-volume set with extensive index for easy look up. Shelved in the reference area RB147 .S75 2001. Ask for assistance from the circulation desk if you have problems locating it.
OMIM
The online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, is a continuously updated catalog of human genes and genetic disorders. OMIM focuses primarily on inherited or heritable genetic diseases. A professional level NCBI book, OMIM is intended for use primarily by physicians and other professionals concerned with genetic disorders, by genetics researchers, and by advanced students in science and medicine. Can be used for tracing major references including older literature.
NCBI Bookshelf
NCBI Book Shelf is a growing searchable online book collection. Titles range from molecular biology texts to medical texts and reports.
Finding Journal Articles:
ProQuest Research Library
Provider: ProQuest
Provides citations and some full-text journal articles in a wide variety of disciplines, both scholarly and popular in scope. Covers 1971-present. Good source of articles on disease and history.
PubMed
Provider: NCBI
National Library of Medicine's search service that provides access to over 16 million citations for biomedical articles from the 1950’s to present.
Annual Reviews
Review articles give a summary of research on a particular topic and can point you to important articles and authors in the field.
Google scholar
Use this IN ADDITION to library-provided databases listed above. Google Scholar is not comprehensive, but often finds interesting results that the other databases don't! Use the "Check Tripod" and "Find it @ “BrynMawr”" links to see if we have access to full text.
Off-Campus Access:
To use our databases and full text journals, simply go to the LIBRARY HOME PAGE and select off-campus access. After entering your email username and password, you'll have access to our electronic resources, no matter where you are.
InterLibrary Loan & TriCollege Borrowing:
If you want to get a book or journal article that we don't have available in our library, you will need to use Inter-Library Loan (ILL).
Tri-College ILL - BOOKS: If you want a book from Swarthmore or Haverford, simply press the REQUEST button at the top of the Tripod screen. Enter your name & barcode, and select WHERE you want to pick up the book. Delivery takes approximately one day library to library.
Non-Tri-College ILL - BOOKS: For books NOT available in Tripod, try E-Z Borrow and request books directly from nearby Pennsylvania & NJ libraries. Books usually arrive within a few days. If the book is not available via EZ Borrow, try regular InterLibrary Loan. (Use Worldcat to get complete book information).
JOURNAL ARTICLES: For articles in journals not available at Bryn Mawr, use the online ILL form.
