Finding Books:
Most of the Neuroscience books are found in the QP 300's and 400's. And many of those books are in the OVERSIZE section - if there is a + in the call number, the book will be found in the last range of books upstairs, by the study tables.

Academic Complete includes more than 30,000 current e-books from leading publishers, including life and physical sciences (2,400 titles). It spans all subjects.
Note: If you plan to PRINT from eBrary titles, you will be restricted to printing only TWENTY pages at a time, and FORTY pages in one session. If you need to print more than forty pages, you will need to close the browser & then open a new window (but copy the URL of the e-Book before you close, so you can paste it into the new browser window).

ProQuest Research Library

An interdisciplinary database which has much full-text. Often a good place to start your research. Covers 1971-present.
Web of science
Provider: ISI
This multidisciplinary database can be searched by subject, author, and journal title. Articles that CITE a known author or work can also be searched. Cited reference searching helps identify more recent articles on the same topic. Coverage for the Science Citation Index in WofS now goes back to 1900!
Cambridge scientific abstracts internet database service
Provider: CSA
Use the ADVANCED search screen. Select Subject Area: NATURAL SCIENCES -or- select Specific Databases. For this class, you might want to use Biological Sciences select the subfile CSA Neurosciences Abstracts. (Note: CSA also provides a nice interface for searching Pubmed).

Provider: NCBI
Includes over 15 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950's. Includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.
Google scholar
Google Scholar often digs up good resources that the other databases don't. So it is a good database to use in addition to the others. Use the "Check Tripod" and "Find it @ Swarthmore" links to see if we have access to full text.

CogNet library
A searchable collection of journals, books, reference works, and conference materials in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences. Some materials are in full-text.
JSTOR
Provides full-text and page images from many of the top journals in most academic disciplines. Coverage is from the inception of the journal through three to five years ago. Includes Science, PNAS & many other science journals.

SFN publishes a number of journals and provides access to good resources, including a searchable database, resources on the history of neuroscience and much more.
Citation Information:
A short guide to writing about biology

There is a copy of the latest edition of this guide on reserve behind Cornell's Circulation Desk which must be used in the library. You should use this guide for examples on how to cite sources (chapter 5) and for other information like taking notes, avoiding plagiarism, writing lab reports and much more.
InterLibrary Loan & TriCollege Borrowing:
While Cornell Library has a really good collection, obviously there will be times when we don't actually own something you've located in your research. That is when you'll need to borrow from other libraries and to do this you will need Inter-Library Loan (ILL).
Tri-College ILL - BOOKS: If you want a book from Bryn Mawr or Haverford, simply press the REQUEST button at the top of the Tripod screen. Enter your name & barcode, and select WHERE you want to pick up the book. Delivery takes approximately one day library to library.
Non-TriCollege ILL - BOOKS: For books NOT available in Tripod, try E-Z Borrow and request books directly from nearby Pennsylvania & NJ libraries. Books usually arrive within a few days. If the book is not available via EZ Borrow, try regular InterLibrary Loan. (Use Worldcat to get complete BOOK information).
JOURNAL ARTICLES: For articles in journals not available from the main libraries in TriCo*, use the online ILL form. You must put the COMPLETE JOURNAL TITLE in your request - do not use abbreviations, or your request will most likely be sent back to you. For complete journal titles, check the book behind the Circulation Desk, or go to Journal Abbreviation Sources.
* Your Swat ID will get you into Penn's libraries, but you cannot borrow directly from them. You must use ILL to get anything from Penn.
