Depending on research topic, you should find most of the books you need in Tripod. However, if you are ambitious, driven, and obsessive, there are plenty of ways to track down the books we don't already own. Try searching the following catalogs to get a sense of the scope and strengths (or limitations) of Tripod.

finding background information:

Oxford art online

Includes full-text articles on every aspect of the visual arts from prehistory through the present. Contains images and provides links to related sites.

Art index

Provider: Wilson

Offers abstracts of journals, museum bulletins and yearbooks in the fields of art, architecture, decorative arts and photography. Covers abstracts from 1929-present, full-text articles 1997-present.

Avery index to architectural periodicals

Provides citations to journals in the fields of architecture, city planning, interior design, historic preservation and archaeology. Covers 1930-present.

JSTOR

Provides full-text and page images from many of the top journals in most academic disciplines. Coverage is from the inception of the journal through three to five years ago.

Bibliography of the history of art

Provider: CSA

Offers abstracts of journal articles, books, conference proceedings, dissertations and exhibition and dealer's catalogs. Includes European and American art from late antiquity to the present. Covers 1973-present.

Web of science

Provider: ISI

Provides access to the Social Sciences Citation Index, Science Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Search for scholarly articles in any discipline, or for articles that cite a known author or work. Coverage varies.

Periodicals index online (Chadwyck)

Index to journal articles in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, including some published as far back as 1770. Includes periodicals in English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, and other Western languages.

getting the articles you've found:

In Art Index, and indeed most databases, there is a FIND IT icon next to each citation. Click on it to find out if the article is available in full-text online from the campus where you are doing your research, to search Tripod for the journal in print, or to request the item through interlibrary loan. If FIND IT does not appear in your database, use Tripod to search for the journal title in your citation.

If the journal is in print or online at one of the other two schools, you can request that the journal or article be sent to you. If a journal in not in Tripod, you can request the article using ILL. In both cases, follow the directions on the EZ-Borrow/ILL page
