There are several specialized encyclopedias & dictionaries in McCabe's Reference section. These sources are always a good place to get an overview of your topics are you are getting started. These are just a few examples (including 1 online resource):

Since Sociology touches so many aspects of life, its resources may be found under many different call numbers. BASIC Sociology texts are usually found under HM. Anthropology books tend to be in the GN section, but also may be found under other call numbers.

EZ-Borrow

Look for the
button and click on it to see if you can get online access to the citation's article. If Swarthmore does not have access to the online article, you will be given the option to check Tripod for print access, or it will populate an InterLibrary Loan request form for you.

AnthroSource
Provides full text articles from American Anthropological Association journals, newsletters, and bulletins. Covers 1888-present.
JSTOR
Provides full-text and page images from many of the top journals in most academic disciplines. Coverage is from the inception of the journal through three to five years ago. There is a good selection of Anthropology and Sociology journals in JSTOR and lots of other journals that may be useful for your research.
ProQuest Research Library
Provider: ProQuest
Provides citations and full-text magazine and journal articles in a wide variety of disciplines, both scholarly and popular in scope. Often a good place to START your research. Covers 1971-present.

Provides abstracts of journal articles, books, book chapters, dissertations and conference papers in the fields of sociology, social work and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. Records added after 1972 contain in-depth abstracts of journal articles. Covers 1963-present.
Web of Science
This multidisciplinary database can be searched by subject, author, and journal title. Articles that CITE a known author or work can also be searched. Cited reference searching helps identify more recent articles on the same topic. Coverage for the Social Sciences Citation Index goes back to 1956.
Google scholar
Google provides a pretty good database for searching for scholarly literature. Use this IN ADDITION to library-provided databases listed here, as there is a lot that is NOT included in Google Scholar. But - it also often digs up good stuff that the other databases don't! Use the "Check Tripod" and "Find it @ Swarthmore" links to see if we have access to full text.
